Microcurrent Therapy

The Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse are unique, sophisticated, FDA approved instruments that interface microcurrent with living bioelectricity. The technology incorporates biofeedback monitoring and computer-chip circuitry programming. Reading impedance and resistance (the capacity of tissue to conduct signals) and its ability to "hold a charge," the biofeedback enables the computer program to calculate the corrective output (waveforms and frequencies). It can locate areas where the electrical patterns are abnormal (too high with acute inflammation, or too low where there is a depletion of energy) and introduces the appropriate amount of low level electrical current into the cells. This technology offers the opportunity to assist the body in its innate ability to self-repair.

More specifically, microcurrent therapy involves the application of extremely low-level electrical currents (particularly 1 millionth of an ampere), directly to the body. Microcurrents are equivalent to what the body generates naturally. Studies have been conducted since the 1970’s, and this therapy system has been used in hospitals since. Interestingly, microcurrent therapy aided contestants in the 1984 Olympics to win gold medals. Animal calibrated instruments were then released in the 1990s and have been precisely calibrated to reflect the different metabolic rates in small and large animals, versus humans. This means they have been designed with a computer program that has “knowledge”, so to speak, of your animal’s specific cellular norms and functions and can replenish those cellular norms as it is deemed appropriate.

Microcurrent works because each cell in our body is like a miniature battery. It must store and keep the appropriate charge, or otherwise be in dysfunction. When an animal is injured, the energy that is stored by that miniature battery is diminished, or overactive. This is where you see swelling, spasm, pain, weakness, etc (these are just a few examples). Because the computer chip is supported by artificial intelligence, it reads the norms for cellular function in the patient and automatically, and in milli-seconds (2.5msecs to gather, and 2.5msecs to deliver), delivers the appropriate amount of current needed for that cell to restore appropriate function. This advanced biofeedback system sets the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse apart from other microcurrent modalities. Recognizing and sending the appropriate current needed for the cell to replenish itself and repair, works like a “jump-start”. This has been proven in studies conducted by multiple scientists since the 1970s, including Dr. Cheng (researcher), Joel Rossen (DVM) and Mark Biedebach, Ph. D (just to name a few). These studies are available on our website for download, or available by searching online.  In fact, “The application of an electric or an electromagnetic field to various biologic systems results in stimulation of growth and tissue repair… (and) electro-magnetic treatment of bone tissue improves osteogenesis…Electrical potentials also stimulate the regeneration of damaged nerve and muscle structures and accelerate surgical wound healing (1). Notably, patients show an average of 65% accelerated recovery rate, and according to clinical trials, 70%-80% recovery rate acceleration when the systems are used correctly (2).

Electro-Acuscope and the Electro-Myopulse Instrument Specifics

The Electro-Acuscope works on the Central Nervous System (CNS) which contains the brain and the spinal cord. The CNS is responsible for coordinating and managing activities across the entire organism. Cells have ion channels that are voltage sensitive, and electrotherapy (microcurrent) can increase the entrance of important substances (calcium, sodium, and potassium, for example). This creates a chain reaction which allows sensory nerves to release other chemicals (vasoactive peptides) in response. Impedance (or, blockages) in the flow of energy in the cells are measured by the Electro-Acuscope. Using the information it has learned from cellular characteristics measured, it adjusts the current waveform and voltage pulses to effectivize treatment. This system displays digital readings to help monitor the tissue and pinpoint cellular dysfunction. This system does not send fixed-output currents, or a constant voltage.  Because of this, the tissue cannot be overstimulated (much like it is in other therapy modalities), and the body is replenished to the closest state of balanced, homeostasis.

The Electro-Myopulse therapy system is designed to treat soft and connective tissue in the body, primarily the connective tissue in muscles. Once prepped with the Electro-Acuscope system, modest increase of calcium in the body stimulated by the currents delivered, can result in increased ATP (responsible for intracellular energy transfer) and protein synthesis, which works to prevent muscle atrophy, accelerate tissue repair, and alleviate pain. Inducing muscle contraction (tetanic contractions) expends ATP, which the body must save so it can repair itself. Like the Electro-Acuscope, the Electro-Myopulse has specially designed current and voltage monitoring impulses that provide its system with tissue impedance (blockage) information. Using a sinusoidal (sloped or curved) waveform, it helps the soft tissue by sending appropriate waveform patterns to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and periosteum. Normalizing the electro-magnetic field that surrounds soft and connective tissue, it helps repair areas that may have been damaged from chronic overuse or acute injuries.

Conclusion

Conclusion

What makes my approach to microcurrent therapy particularly unique and effective for your dog is my extensive background. With years of veterinary technical experience, including direct involvement in assisting with orthopedic surgeries, I possess an in-depth understanding of canine anatomy, surgical procedures, and the complexities of post-operative recovery. This hands-on experience, coupled with my knowledge of chronic conditions commonly affecting small animals, gives me a distinctive advantage in precisely identifying areas of concern and tailoring microcurrent protocols for optimal results, especially for post-operative cases or long-standing musculoskeletal and neurological issues. I look forward to discussing how this specialized care can benefit your canine companion or patients today.

Results to be considered: In fact “...results are usually noticeable immediately, with continued improvement over the following few days. Within a week, most conditions will have progressed dramatically. Chronic conditions may take several treatments before initial results are observed, yet Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse treatments are known to resolve serious conditions which would otherwise never improve. Optimized alertness, calmness, gait improvements, coordination, and balance are typically some of the immediate results along with reduction of pain, swelling, and relief from muscle tightness. It has been consistently observed that the animal becomes extremely relaxed from this non-invasive procedure. They often observed relaxing through a treatment by lowering their head, giving a deep sigh of relief, bending a rear leg, licking and chewing, and yawning. Clinical studies showed that 25% of the patient population achieved stability or resolution in 1-6 session(s), 50% achieved these benefits in 6-12 sessions, and 25% responded to reach stability or resolution in 12-24 sessions” (2).
